How To Ride
Preparing to ride the bus? Just plan, pay and ride. We’re here to help you every step of the way. Find tips on this page or attend a How to Ride training.
Step 1: PLAN
Find a Service
Our bus network map can help you find what bus routes and other services are available in your area.
Explore Trip Options
The MyDART Trip Planner lets you enter trip details and search for the best routes and times to travel. Track your trip to see if a red alert appears, which tells you the bus is delayed.
Read the Bus Schedule
Each bus route has a schedule that shows when the bus will arrive at different locations. Find the location nearest you and the times the bus comes by that stop.
Step 2: PAY
Decide how you will pay your fare
Buy your pass using the MyDART® App
Bring the exact fare amount in cash
Purchase a pass at DART Customer Service or at another location that sells passes.
Tip: Some riders can pay less or ride free. Learn if you qualify
Step 3: RIDE
Now you’re ready to ride the bus!
Going to Your Bus Stop
- Get to the stop at least 5 minutes early.
- Look for the DART bus stop sign.
- As your bus approaches, stand where the driver can see you from at least two blocks away.
Getting on the Bus
- Check the digital sign above the windshield to make sure you get on the correct bus.
- Let people get off before you get on.
- Have your fare ready.
- Board at the front of the bus.
Riding the Bus
- Pay your fare on the farebox next to the bus driver:
- Cash: Use the coin and bill slots.
- Printed pass: Swipe the magnetic strip.
- Mobile pass: Scan your MyDART app.
- Find a seat or hold onto a rail.
- Keep bus aisles clear.
Getting Off the Bus
- Pull the cord or press the STOP button about one block before your stop.
- Exit through the back door.
- Watch for traffic when you step off. Wait until the bus pulls away before crossing the street.
Tip: If you are unsure what to do or where to get off, ask your bus operator for help.
Your Rider Code of Conduct
To keep rides safe and comfortable for everyone, please remember:
- Do not smoke or eat on the bus.
- Bring a closed water bottle. Open cups (like coffee cups) are not allowed.
- Do not distract the driver or other riders. Use headphones if you listen to music or videos.
- Take your items with you when you get off the bus.
